Our designing roots lie in sailboat design, initially high-performance dinghies such as International 14’s, then sports boats like the Reflex 28 and racing yachts such as the Reflex 38. This led to joining the British America’s Cup team in 2002/3 which further underpinned our design philosophy of seeking efficiency at every turn.

Since then, SMD has designed multi-championship-winning racing yachts, blue water cruising yachts, luxurious catamarans and lift keel fast cruisers. Working in collaboration with interior/exterior designers, we marry our efficient hull forms to striking and elegant aesthetics.

Our motor yachts follow a similar direction, often with tank testing to validate the CFD studies. We have worked with one of the largest production builders in the world, and our designs have won prestigious awards. We are pleased and proud to part of the teams that come together to make these amazing craft.
